Students will learn how to use metal working machines, hand tools, power tools and processes to manipulate metal to advantage. Students are shown how to use a design process to develop ideas that can be put into production and how to manipulate ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Projects will be undertaken using skills such as turning and milling, arc and MIG welding, oxy and braze welding as well as sheet metal cutting bending and fixing. Within the scope of the course, students will be introduced to both the functional and aesthetic uses of metal in our world. Metal is highly functional and yet it can be beautifully artistic depending on the intended application. Students will be using the Metal Technology workshop and equipment to gain experience to prepare them for possible further studies and careers such as the Year 11 and 12 General Materials D&T Metal course
