This course provides students with an opportunity to work with a range of different timbers, as well as providing understanding of their properties and uses. Practical tasks expose students to a range of new manufacturing processes, including routering, pneumatic tool use and assembly methods using a variety of techniques and equipment. These skills sets will extend students underpinning knowledge and practical based development, fundamental to such woodworking trades as cabinet making, carpentry and timber finishing. The Wood Technology workshop and Machine Room will be used where students are exposed to the more advanced processes in wood manipulation. This course also provides students with experience to engage in practical rich and complex design tasks where they must use their creativity and innovation to meet the requirements of design challenges.
The Year 10 Wood Technology course is good preparation for the Year 11 and 12 General course of Materials Design and Technology: Wood and the Certificate II in Construction Pathways.
