Year 11 Biology (ATAR)

A unique appreciation of life and a better understanding of the living world are gained through studying the Biology course. This course encourages students to be analytical, to participate in problem-solving and to systematically explore fascinating and intriguing aspects of living systems, from the microscopic level through to ecosystems. Students develop a range of practical skills and techniques through investigations and fieldwork in authentic contexts such as marine reefs, endangered species, urban ecology, viticulture or biotechnology. Scientific evidence is used to make informed decisions about controversial issues.

Studying the Biology ATAR course provides students with a suite of skills and understandings that are valuable to a wide range of further study pathways and careers. Understanding of biological concepts, as well as general science knowledge and skills, is relevant to a range of careers, including those in medical, veterinary, food and marine sciences, agriculture, biotechnology, environmental rehabilitation, biosecurity, quarantine, conservation and eco-tourism.
